Films Every Entrepreneur Should Watch (PART 2)

Sometimes we need to relax, especially when we have worked really hard day and night for weeks at a time. So when the next time you find you’re self-relaxing, instead of watching a show like the X- Factor, why not enjoy watching a film that will motivate you instead.

THE LIST

1.American Gangster (2007) True Story



In the early 70’s Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) became Harlem’s biggest drug lord important heroin like no other. Lucas became successful by masterminding a unique approach to provide drugs.

His reign at the top crumbles quickly when he finds himself locked up due the relentless drive of detective Richie Roberts.

Lessons

1. Cut out the middle man

3. Always abide by you’re principles

2.The Family Man (2000)



Jack Campbell (Nicholas Cage) is a successful and ruthless Wall Street businessman. One day he wakes up in a family home, instead of his penthouse. He discovers he is someone else, a man who lives an average life. He aggressively goes looking for answers but eventually becomes comfortable with his new life. At the end of the film he has trouble deciding if he wants to return to his old life or retain his new lifestyle.

Lessons:

1. Know where you want to be clearly
2. Sacrifice big to make it big
3. Stick with the decisions you make

3.Yes Man (2008)

Carl Allen (Jim Carey) is a Los Angeles bank employee who finds himself constantly rejecting invitations and living a routine lifestyle. Carl is usually satisfied with watching rented DVDs alone in his apartment. Later he finds his life changing after he participates in a motivational seminar.

He soon undertakes the task of saying yes to every request presented to him. After constantly operating out his comfort zone he finds himself improving in both in his financial and relationship status.

Lessons:

1. Say yes more much more than no. Life should be an adventure
2. Keep staying positive when life looks dull
3. Make life fun by refusing to participate in a routine driving lifestyle

4.The Aviator (2004)



This film is based on the life of billionaire businessman Howard Hughes, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. The film concentrates on how Hughes made a huge fortune from taking daring risks.

Lessons:


1. Don’t follow the trends; set the trends
2. Ignore negative naysayers
3. Trust your own judgment and ideas at all times

5.Paid in Full (2002) - True Story

(This film is not about business, however it does contain tips that you can use to progress in business)

(Although it’s based on illegal dealings you can still learn a lot of valuable business principles.)
Set in Harlem (1986), three teenagers had one goal, living the American dream; plenty of cash, fast cars and flash clothes. Ace (Wood Harris) decides to quit is low paid laundry job and start dealing in the lucrative drug business. His success is based on customer satisfaction which allows him to completely dominate the market.

The Lessons

1. Benefit from other people’s experiences.
2. Don’t be greedy. To keep you're team loyal

6.Groundhog Day (1993)

(This film is not about business, however it does contain tips that you can use to progress in business)

Phil Connors (Bill Murray) a self-centered Pittsburgh TV weatherman finds himself repeating the same day, Groundhog Day, day after day. When Phil starts feeling suicidal he comes back to his senses by re-examining his life objectives.

The Lessons

1. Strive to make significant improvements every single day by utilizing the day to your fullest ability.
2. Refuse to repeat the same routines every day.

7.Alexander (2004) - True story

(This film is not about business, however it does contain tips that you can use to progress in business)

The film Alexander is based on Alexander the great (Colin Farrell), King of Macedonian, a natural born leader . He was, and believed that he was, one of the greatest military commanders of all time, which is why he was never undefeated in battle. During his rule, Alexander conquered Asia Minor, Persia and a fraction of India.

The Lessons

1. Study the greats before you and try to be better than them.
2. Carry yourself like a king; be bold to be successful.
3. Strive to do ten times more than the average person.

8.A raisin in the sun (2008 version)

This film is based on an African-American family living in Chicago’s Southside. The family is excited when Matriarch Lena receives an insurance check for $10,000 for her deceased husband which she would like to build a new house with, but Walter Lee (Sean Coombs aka P. Diddy) has other plans. He believes that by investing in a liquor store he can make the family financial secure.

The Lessons

1. Never rely on someone else to make you money.
2. Be wary of everyone in business.
3. Make you do your research.

9.Scarface (1983)



Tony Montana (Al Pacino) a Cuban refugee chases the American dream with a “nothing to lose” attitude. He builds a cocaine empire, ruthlessly attaining wealth, power and his dream girl through his hunger to achieve and gain recognition.

The Lessons

1. Decide what you want to achieve and be single-minded in achieving it.
2. Never doubt your ability to make it.
3. Network with high fliers and learn from them.

10.Malcolm X (1992) - True story

(This film is not about business, however it does contain tips that you can use to progress in business)

Malcolm X (Denzel Washington) changes from a pimp and a drug pusher to an intellectual black activist. The film shows you how he used his experiences to grow and keep moving forward.

The Lessons

1. Be disciplined with the task you have to accomplish to become the person you want to be.
2. Remember that it is never too late for change.
3. Look to make a big change.
4. Put yourself out there.
